Biography

My name is James Kahu and I'm a singer, songwriter and a bass player from Auckland, New Zealand. I'm into Rock and Funk but have immersed myself in every style of music since 1989. At the age of 16 I was able to play with some of the USA's top Jazz musicians including Bobby Shew.

After High School, I studied at Christchurch Polytechnic Jazz School and graduated in 1996. Then I joined the Royal New Zealand Navy Band and had the privilege to play with some more of the USA's top Jazz musicians like Bob Sheppard (Saxophone), Jon Papenbrook (Trumpet), John Fedchock (Trombone), and a one on one with Dwayne Pate (Bassist from Robben Ford's Band).

In 2008, I completed a two month promotional tour in the USA. Since then I have released and EP, Everything, on iTunes. Currently recording an album that should be available in stores and online in 2010.

Also I have done a video clip Sleep and a second one is in planing for Love Surf Drunk.

On weekends I play in a covers band at Danny Doolans.
